Date Night

Dinner out does not have to feel like a medical event.

You're eating very little in front of someone, the food might not agree with you, and alcohol hits harder than expected. None of this has to ruin the evening. You just order differently than you used to.

What to order where

Steakhouse (best choice)

Filet mignon or petite sirloin (smallest cut), asparagus or broccoli side, one glass of red wine if drinking.

Steakhouses are the ideal date night restaurant on GLP-1. Naturally protein-forward, dark lighting, unhurried service.

Japanese or sushi

Sashimi (salmon, tuna, yellowtail), edamame, miso soup. One roll with sauce on the side if you want.

Beautiful, easy to share, naturally portion-controlled. One of the best date night options.

Mediterranean or Greek

Grilled fish or lamb, Greek salad, hummus and vegetables with minimal pita.

Mediterranean cuisine is some of the most GLP-1 compatible food there is.

Italian

Grilled fish or chicken main, vegetable sides, house salad to start. Ask them to skip the bread basket.

Manageable if you navigate it. Avoid cream pastas. A nice Italian restaurant usually has excellent grilled fish.

French bistro

Steak frites (eat the steak, skip most of the frites), nicoise salad, or roasted chicken.

French food is more protein-friendly than it gets credit for. Rich sauces in moderation are fine.

How to handle it

Pick the restaurant if you can. Steakhouses, Mediterranean, and Japanese are all naturally GLP-1 friendly. Italian and Mexican require more navigation.
Share an entree or order an appetizer as your main. This is socially normal at nicer restaurants and nobody will blink.
Tell the server you are sharing if you order small. "We are going to share a couple of things" frames it naturally.
If you want to drink: one glass of wine with food is fine. Spirits hit harder. Skip cocktails with sugary mixers.
The goal is to be present, not to finish the plate. Order something you genuinely want, eat what you can, and enjoy the company.
Spicy food can intensify reflux on GLP-1. If your date picked a Thai or Indian restaurant, note the spice level before you go.

"I'm on a medication that affects my appetite, I'm good" is honest and low-key. Most people either know someone on GLP-1 or are on it themselves. Not being hungry is the medication working.

New to GLP-1?

In your first few months, suggest the restaurant if you can. Steakhouses and Japanese (sashimi) are your easiest options. Eat lightly on the day of dinner so your appetite is more predictable. Skip cocktails entirely. One glass of wine with food is the limit.
